Why Waiheke Owners Call Dakom Tiling

Empty holiday homes, rainwater tanks, salt air and a ferry between you and the nearest specialist. Island bathrooms fail differently, so we plan island jobs differently.

PS3 Certified,
Waiheke Included

The rules are not looser out here. Auckland Council is still the consent authority for the Hauraki Gulf islands. We are Registered PS3 Authors, so we issue the Producer Statement ourselves with no third party to chase.

Council-Ready Docs

One Planned Crossing,
Not Six Day Trips

There are no tile shops on the island, so the order has to be right first time. Tiles, membrane, primer, screed and grout all cross in one load on the vehicle ferry, and freight sits on your quote as its own line.

Freight Priced Up Front

One Crew for the
Whole Wet Area

Waterproofing, screeding, tiling and the PS3 all handled by the same team on the same visit. When the membrane and the tiling are split between two contractors, nobody owns the result.

Start-to-Finish Service
10

Done Once,
Backed for 10 Years

Redoing an island bathroom costs far more than redoing a mainland one, because everything and everyone crosses the water twice. Our work is covered by a 10-year workmanship warranty in writing.

Written Guarantee

Booked in Blocks. Finished in One Visit

Waiheke work is scheduled as a single uninterrupted run, with the crew, the materials and the certification all arriving together. You do not need to be on the island. We coordinate access with your property manager, send progress photos at the end of each day, and hand the house back clean.

Island Wide

Waterproofing and Tiling Across Waiheke

Most Waiheke properties run on rainwater tanks and on-site wastewater, and plenty of houses sit empty for weeks at a time. A slow leak here is tank water disappearing into your subfloor, and nobody is there to notice. These are the jobs we get called for most:

Bathroom Waterproofing

Certified membranes on showers, floors and wet area walls, with correct upstands, sealed penetrations and full cure time before any tile goes down. PS3 issued where the job needs one. See how our bathroom waterproofing service works.

Bathroom Tiling & Renovations

Floors, walls, walk-in showers, niches, benches and vanity surrounds in porcelain, ceramic, marble and stone. Large format tiles need a level substrate, so our bathroom renovation team checks and fix that first. Full strip-out to handover if you want the room done properly.

Deck & Balcony Waterproofing

Half the good houses on this island are built for the view, which means decks and balconies sitting over living space, exposed to sun, wind and salt. We install new membranes and fix decks that already leak into the room below. See our deck and balcony waterproofing.

Pool & Outdoor Tiling

Pool interiors, waterlines, coping and surrounds, plus slip-rated tiling for terraces and entertaining areas. Our pool tiling team forms proper drainage falls so water runs away from the house, not toward it, and use systems built for salt air and constant sun.

We also handle kitchen splashbacks, indoor floors, underfloor heating, commercial and hospitality wet areas and remedial repairs on failed tiling. Cracked tiles, crumbling grout and mystery leaks all get diagnosed before anything is patched, because covering a failed membrane only delays the real bill.

Nebo did an outstanding job on our 2 bathrooms. From the very beginning, he was incredibly thorough during the quoting process, asking lots of detailed questions to make sure he fully understood exactly what we wanted. His workmanship is excellent, with impressive attention to detail throughout, and the final result not only matched our vision but exceeded our expectations. We are so pleased with the quality of his work and would highly recommend Dakom tiling to anyone looking for a skilled, professional and reliable tiler.

Nebo and his team of tilers did a 1st class job of our bathroom renovation. Very high level attention to detail with flawless mitre joints and they really took their time getting our herringbone pattern lined up and symmetrical around our shower niche. Great communication, always turned up on time & tided up afterwards. If you’re looking for a very good tiler, at a reasonable price point I would contact Nebo & lock it in. Will be recommending Dakom Tiling to our friends & family for sure.

We’ve used Dakom Tiling Ltd on multiple projects for bathroom tiling and waterproofing, and they’ve been consistently solid.
The workmanship is top quality — clean lines, good attention to detail, and everything finished properly. Their waterproofing is done right, which is critical, and gives us confidence handing over to clients.
They’re reliable, turn up when they say they will, and get through the work without dragging things out. Easy to deal with on site and don’t need to be micromanaged.
Overall, very happy with their work and we’ll continue using them for bathroom tiling and waterproofing moving forward.

As a Building Manager, I have been working with Dakom Tiling for a few years now across several buildings that I manage.
The team is very professional, reliable, and highly meticulous in their finishing. They respect all health and safety procedures and have consistently worked well while accommodating our residents.
I can’t recommend them enough, as both I and our committee have been truly happy with their service.

2026 Waiheke Price Guide

What Does Waterproofing and Tiling Cost on Waiheke?

A little more than the same job on the mainland, and we would rather show you why than hide it in the square metre rate. As a general guide:

Repair & Remedial

$3,000 to $9,000

A leaking shower, a failed section of deck membrane, lifting pool waterline tiles, or grout and silicone renewal. We diagnose the cause first, then fix that rather than the symptom.

Full Bathroom Renovation

$24,000 to $40,000

Most common on Waiheke

Complete strip-out, certified waterproofing with PS3, full floor and wall tiling, new fixtures, and updated plumbing and electrical. Freight and travel included as their own line.

Multiple Wet Areas

$45,000 to $90,000+

Two or three bathrooms, a deck membrane and a pool retile handled in one planned visit. Layout changes, large format porcelain, natural stone, and underfloor heating.

Why island pricing differs. Two things add to an island quote and nothing else does: freight for the materials and travel time for the crew. Everything crosses on the vehicle ferry in one load, because there are no tile suppliers on Waiheke and a second trip for a missing box of tiles costs a full day. The bigger the job, the smaller that premium looks as a share of the total, which is why doing every wet area in one visit is almost always cheaper than doing them one at a time. For the underlying labour rates we work from, see our guide on how much a tiler costs in New Zealand.

One more tip. Insist on a fixed, itemised quote with freight and travel shown as separate lines. It should also list the strip-out, the waterproofing product, the tiling rate and the fixtures on their own. Vague quotes are where hidden costs hide, and on an island there are more places for them to hide.

FAQs About Waiheke Tiling Services

Got questions? Here’s everything you need to know before hiring a tiler

Worse than the same leak on the mainland, for two reasons. Nobody is there to notice it, so the water has usually been in the framing for weeks by the time you spot a soft floor or a damp smell. And on a property running off a rainwater tank, that leak is your drinking water draining into the subfloor, which is a real problem in a dry February. Send us photos and a description and we will tell you what we think is happening. If it needs eyes on it, we arrange access with your property manager and send you a written assessment before you commit to anything.

If the job involves a new tiled shower, a change to the waterproofing, or moving plumbing, then usually yes. Auckland Council is the building consent authority for the Hauraki Gulf islands, so the same rules apply here as in Remuera. Once consented wet area work is involved, the council wants a PS3 Producer Statement from a certified installer before it will issue the Code Compliance Certificate. We are Registered PS3 Authors, so we issue that document ourselves. Like for like work, such as swapping a vanity in the same position, generally does not need consent.

On the mainland someone drives to the supplier. Here it costs a day and a ferry crossing, so we do not let it happen. We measure, then order with an allowance for cuts, breakage and future repairs, and we confirm the exact tile and batch before anything is loaded. Dye lots vary between batches, so a top-up order months later rarely matches. We also bring the adhesive, membrane, primer, screed, trims and grout across in the same load. If you have already bought your tiles, tell us what you have and we will check the quantity before we book the crossing.

Not always, and the answer matters more here because of what refilling costs. Most Waiheke properties have no mains water, so a full drain and refill means paying a water carting company, and that can be a significant part of the job. We assess whether the failure is localised, usually waterline tiles or coping taking the worst of the sun and salt, or whether the substrate underneath has gone. Then we give you both options with real numbers. Where we do retile, we use mosaic and porcelain systems built for constant immersion, pool chemicals and the temperature swings this coast puts them through.

It has to come up. A deck sitting over living space is weathertightness work under Building Code clause E2, not a cosmetic job, and tiling over a failed membrane just hides the leak while the framing keeps getting wet. We strip back, check the substrate and the falls, install a membrane rated for exterior movement and UV, then tile over it with a decoupling layer so the deck can expand and contract without cracking the grout. For exposed island decks and pool surrounds we specify a slip rating of R11 or above, because these surfaces spend half the year wet and the other half in full sun.
