Most tiling looks fine on the day. The difference shows up six months later, in grout that stains, tiles that sound hollow, or joints that open along the benchtop. We have been tiling Auckland kitchens since 2016, and the work is built for how a kitchen actually gets used.
What happens before any tile goes down
This is where kitchen tiling goes right or wrong. Before we lay anything, every job gets:
- Substrate assessment - an unstable or contaminated substrate makes tiles crack and lift within months. We find and fix issues before they become yours.
- Level checks across the full surface - small levelling errors are obvious in a finished kitchen. We work to a consistent plane and check it before installation starts.
- Layout planned from the visual reference points - the layout starts from where the eye lands, the rangehood line, the bench, the window, not from the nearest corner. Every cut is intentional.
- Grout matched to the environment - in high-use kitchen areas we install epoxy grout. It is non-porous and stain-resistant, and it outperforms standard cement grout where cooking splatter and daily cleaning are the reality.
Splashbacks, floors and feature walls
Splashbacks - planned around your cabinetry lines, powerpoints and rangehood so every joint is consistent. Subway tiles, large slab formats, textured and decorative tiles, and we will tell you honestly what holds up in a kitchen and what does not.
Kitchen floors - the hardest-working surface in the house. We advise on slip resistance, tile thickness and sizing before material is ordered, then install ceramic, porcelain, large format, natural stone and marble, including 1200mm-plus slabs.
Feature walls - in open-plan homes a well-tiled feature wall anchors the kitchen zone within the wider space. We install walls that work with the layout, not against it.

Before you book
How long does kitchen tiling take?
A splashback typically takes one to two days. A full kitchen floor and wall project runs three to seven days depending on size, tile format and substrate condition. We give you a realistic timeline before we start, not an optimistic one.
What grout should I use in a kitchen?
For splashbacks and heavy-use floors, epoxy grout. It is non-porous, so oil and coffee wipe off instead of soaking in, and it does not need sealing like cement grout. It costs more up front and saves you scrubbing for years.
Can you tile over existing tiles?
Sometimes, if the existing tiles are sound, flat and well bonded. It adds floor height and depends entirely on what is underneath, so we assess it on site and tell you straight whether it will last or whether the old surface should come off.
Do you work on commercial kitchens?
Yes. Commercial kitchens bring extra requirements around slip resistance, drainage falls and hygiene, and we specify and install to meet them.
Do you supply the tiles or do I buy them?
Either works. We have supplier relationships with The Tile Depot, Tile Space and Tile Warehouse and can advise on selection, or we work with tiles you have already bought and specify the quantities so nothing is wasted.
